School children at Sarisbury Infant School entered an Easter Bonnet Parade with a difference as national housebuilder, Miller Homes, tasked them to decorate a hard hat – just like the ones worn by the construction workers on site – in the style of a traditional Easter bonnet.

It may sound hopping mad, but the 30 pupils from the Y2 Zebra class rose to the ‘egg’-citing challenge and transformed the hard hats into beautiful bonnets. Miller Homes’ local development at Admirals Wood, Sarisbury Green, supported the project and John Taylor, Regional Sales Manager for the Southern region visited the school to watch the very special parade and award a prize for the best bonnet.

The winning entry by Francesca Scantlebury, aged 7 caught the judge’s eye with Jack Nicholls (6) runner up and Liam Cracknell (7) in third place.

Francesca won a £20 book voucher and an Easter egg for her fantastic effort, Jack and Liam received Easter Eggs and all the rest of the class received Easter treats for their ‘egg’- cellent entries.

Mandy Grayson, Deputy Head teacher, said: “The children were very excited by this project and spent a lot of time working on it. We are really grateful to Miller Homes for inviting us to take part in its fun Easter activity, it has given the children a chance to show off their artistic flare and the finished hats reflect each child’s individuality.”

John Taylor added: “With so many imaginative and eye-catching entries, it made my job to pick a winner very difficult. The children had clearly spent a lot of time working on their hard hat bonnets and all the effort paid off – who knew there were so many ways to brighten up a boring hard hat!”
