Make tracks to a fantastic hideaway

Homebuyers yearning to make tracks into the deeper countryside would do well to take to the lanes around Hambledon.

Even with diligent searching, they will need some skills to find Pitt Hill House which was built to an individual design on a triangular plot just where a sign saying “Unsuitable for Motors” suggests taking a different route.

But persevere for just a few more yards and the house will reveal itself, standing proud in its attractive and manicured gardens that form part of more than three acres of grounds.

There are paddocks that need rejuvenating, as does the outdoor swimming pool, but the end result will be a haven in an extremely small community which remains hidden yet within easy reach of Hambledon and Denmead, both with village facilities, as well as Waterlooville with its major shops and access to the A3(M).

But who wants to think about getting away when it’s so tempting to stay put? The house has fantastic views and its layout is oriented to make the most of natural light with the principal rooms facing south, as do all four bedrooms.

If this makes sense, the front door is at the back so the living space is uninterrupted by the entrance hall. Such an arrangement left the architect free to place the kitchen, dining, and drawing rooms where they could be best enjoyed, the latter with a large south-facing bay window and west-facing sliding patio doors. There are similar doors in the sitting room, opening onto the terrace to complete the house’s west side story.

Stairs from the rear lobby descend to the double garage, with a wine cellar to one side, while the first and second floors are each home to two bedrooms. The master has a luxury en-suite with both a bath and shower room while the family bathroom can be accessed via the landing and the second bedroom. There is a cloakroom on the second floor landing plus indoor and outdoor cloakrooms on the ground floor.

In addition to the pool and pool house, the latter with a bar area, there are old stables and a barn. The house will be ideal for active families as its drive opens directly onto a network of tracks and paths that will be an instant draw for country lovers.
