IT helps young people with learning disabilities prepare for employment, and now it will undergo a £650,000 facelift. Eastleigh College’s College House residential campus is due to begin work on a new study centre in July. It will feature a classroom, workshop and training kitchen, and will enable the college to offer its Skills for Independent Living students a practical training environment to develop their skills. The college in Shepherds Lane in Compton, near Winchester, currently caters for students aged 16-18 with moderate learning disabilities with a total of 14 student residents on weekdays, returning home at weekends and holidays. The new centre will be available for 16 students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and eight not in education, employment or training.
It aims to provide work skills which will support them to progress into employment.
