At Remembrance Services...

SILENCE will descend on Hampshire at 11am on the eleventh hour of the eleventh month on Sunday.

Thousands of residents will visit churches and memorials across the county to pay their respects to fallen servicemen and women during Remembrance Sunday.

Up to 800 Scouts and Guides are expected to form part of a huge parade through Netley towards St Edwards Church.

The names of Fareham residents who have died while serving in the Armed Forces will be read out at 10am at Holy Trinity Church, followed by the Remembrance Service.

A wreath laying at the monument will take place ahead of the Winchester Cathedral service.

Veterans, civic dignitaries and members of military and cadet organisations will depart from Southampton’s Civic Centre led by the Southampton Albion Band toward the Cenotaph for the city’s Remembrance Service.

In Winchester…

THE Hoosiers, right, members of Ocean Colour Scene and Ellie James provide the entertainment at the Christmas Lights Switch on at The Broadway on Thursday from 3pm.

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Frank Pearson, will switch on the lights at 6pm accompanied by the cast of Aladdin, this year’s Theatre Royal Winchester panto.

Choirs and singers will perform and a market will be in full swing.

At Wellow Primary School…

IT’S your last chance to enjoy the fireworks festivities this year when the display to music takes place in the grounds of the school tomorrow night.

The event has been running around 15 years and last year attracted 1,200 people.

This year’s Guy Fawkes celebrations will be themed around the Best of British, reflecting on the Queen’s Jubilee, Olympics and Paralympics.

The gates open at 5.30pm, the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the fireworks start at 7pm.

At Southampton Clock Tower…

TO highlight World Diabetes Day, the window lights of Southampton’s Civic clock tower are turning blue. World Diabetes Day takes place on Wednesday and Southampton City Council is keen to help raise awareness about the disease by turning the window lights on its iconic clock tower blue – as The World Diabetes Day logo is a blue circle.
