ORGANISERS of a Bavarian beer festival are celebrating the granting of their license.
The team behind Soundclash and Switch Nightclub are planning an ambitious Oktoberfest in Southampton’s Guildhall Square from October 26-29.
The event, which will feature one of the biggest beer tents in Hampshire, is expected to attract more than 11,000 people across the four days.
Ryan Keary, one of the organisers, said: “We’re very happy to be granted the licence from Southampton City Council and are looking forward to bringing a new Bavarian style culture to the city.
“The event will have a true carnival atmosphere along with a range of Bavarian style entertainment from live music to exotic German cuisine to reflect Oktoberfest traditions.
“We are looking forward to working with the City Council to deliver these amazing event which has now become a reality.
“Southampton already has great ambience of culture and nightlife that caters for everyone and this will be no exception.”
Ryan said that more than 2,000 had signed up to buy tickets already.
Cabinet Member for Communities Culture and Leisure, Councillor Satvir Kaur weclomed the plans.
She said: “Southampton is the place where something is always happening and Oktoberfest will be a fantastic addition to the city’s events calendar.
“Oktoberfest is world renowned and the events are held in major cities around the globe. We’re confident that Southampton’s offering will become well established and continue to grow every year, provided it’s successful with its licence application and other approvals.
“I hope local residents and visitors take advantage of this exciting addition to our thriving and dynamic city.”
Pre-registration for £10 tickets is now open at oktoberfestsoton.com with tickets due on sale in March.
