A giant metal figure created from eight huge shipping containers will be the centre piece of Waterlitz,aspectacular performance of aerial acrobatics, fireworks and visual surprises.

The show will fill Southampton with music, dance, acrobatics and pyrotechnics. There will be a seven-story shipping container set in a humanoid form that will tower over the audience.

This will set the stage for a spectacular death-defying street theatre show.There will be pre- event activities from 8pm with the main show starting at 10pm.

AT THE AGEAS BOWL….

England’s first one-day game of the season takes place in Hampshire tomorrow.

Andrew Strauss (pictured) and co will take on the West Indies, boosted by the return to international cricket of celebrated batsman Chris Gayle.

AT FIVE ACRES FIELD, Lordshill THE annual Southampton Kite Festival has attracted thousands of people to Five Acres field in Lordshill over the last decade and a half.

Yet last year the free event organised by Solent Kite Flyers was grounded because of lack of helpers, and it had been feared it would follow the city’s carnival and balloon and flower festival into the history books.

But organiser Mike Lowe said he has mustered enough volunteers and is determined the recent bad weather will not cancel the colourful two-day festival tomorrow and Sunday.

The event is being held to raise funds for the Hampshire Air Ambulance service which depends on donations to keep its helicopters in the sky.

Professional stunt kite flying teams will hold displays and there will be night flying on Saturday evening at 9.30pm. There will also be arena displays from local groups, including displays of power kiting with buggies and boards.

IN Lymington… THE Lymington Arts Festival makes a welcome return as artists and performers from all over the town showcase their creative skills.

Now in its fourth year, the annual event provides a wide spectrum of art events, from crafts, to photography and floristry for all ages.

And keeping in the spirit of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics, this year’s week-long event will have a celebration theme throughout all the shows.

During the week, starting on Tu esday, there will be exhibitions, musical performances and workshops across the town, all boasting free entry so everyone can make the most of what Lymington has to offer.

New this year will be music at Lymington Library during the day, and a live music event in the evening that will include a performance by internationally renowned classical guitarist Jonathon Prag.

For children, there will be creative textile and poetry workshops, a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream,plus the chance to have their school artwork on display in shop windows.

The highlight of the event will be the Performance Day on June 23, where in excess of 300 local musicians and dancers of all ages take centre stage at various venues.

At Manor Farm...

THE venue is being transformed to replicate life in wartime Britain tomorrow.

Activities will include re-enactments of the Land Army, displays of military vehicles and even a chance to try out hairstyles of the era in the vintage hair salon.

AT WINCHESTER FASHION WEEK… VENUES across the city are currently playing host to a number of fabulously stylish events, which run until tomorrow.

For the first time ever, Hampshire Wardrobe will be opening its doors to the public today to browse their extensive collection of more than 5,000 costumes and accessories which are available for hire to schools and colleges, drama groups, companies and the general public.

The Brook Fashion event returns tomorrow with a catwalk showcasing top highstreet stores including the Kelly Brook range from New Look. Also taking place will be face painting, nail design, a photo booth and makeovers.

At Chist Church, Freemantle...

THE week-long Freemantle Music and Arts Festival is launched tomorrow.

Performers from professional and amateur backgrounds are coming from across Hampshire and as far afield as Sheffield for the daily concerts.

In addition to live music, the charity event will feature arts and crafts from local artists, children from Freemantle Community Academy, and the church’s own Sunday school.
