Alarm about crime town meets silence from Straw

1:10pm Monday 21st May 2001

ON February 2 I wrote to the Home Secretary, the Rt Hon Jack Straw, asking that urgent consideration be given to increasing the manning levels of Thames Valley Police (TVP).

Only the Home Secretary can do this. I also asked that more money should be allocated to TVP.

I copied my letter to my MP, Dominic Grieve who subsequently asked Jack Straw for a copy of his reply to me.

Not having heard from the Home Secretary, I wrote again to Jack Straw on April 26 and sent a copy of my February letter.

I commented further about the burglaries which had occurred in Gerrards Cross since I wrote HSBC Bank in Packhorse Road having been raided twice, the Halifax Building Society in Station Road being attacked, and Lloyds Bank in Packhorse Road having had all its windows shattered.

I said that in this locality we are targeted by burglars and thieves.

I added in about the disgust for the very low sentence given to the rapist who attacked a dying woman in a Bucks nursing home.

I still have had no reply or acknowledgement from Jack Straw.

I can only surmise that he does not care at all.
