A-level students on top form

Croydon's A-level students received their exam results on Thursday, but one Purley girl pulled out top marks in six A'levels.

Anna Santierson, a pupil at Coloma Convent girl's school gained five A's in Biology, Maths, Chemistry, Italian and German and a B in English.

The Smithan Downs resident cut a family holiday in Hungary short to collect her results from the school and is due to study medicine at Cambridge University.

When asked how she felt she said: I didn't want to hope but I am very relieved.

Head of sixth form Mrs Anne Griffith "She's worked hard, she's never boastful about her intelligence and she's a credit to teachers and staff."

The government comprehensive based in Upper Shirley Road achieved a 94% A'level pass rate with 72% achieving grades A-C.

Trinity Boys school also kept up its high standards with 84.3% gaining A-C and 66% gaining A-B and 99.1% in the new AS level results.

Sixteen-year-old William Brown gained a A'level in Mathematics and is expecting do well in his GCSE's when they come out next week.

A blind Waddon resident, Carolyn Gooding received a great birthday present today by achieving a B grade in Computing, B in Sociology and an E in Biology.

The Crowley Crescent teenager began celebrating her eighteenth birthday after she learned of her results gained at the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB)'s New College.

New College Principle, Nick Ratcliffe said:

"They show that given the right equipment, resources and schooling blind and partially sighted pupils can achieve remarkable results.

"There are very few subjects that students with sight

problems cannot tackle."
