THE end is nigh.

Yes, it’s official – at least according to the Mayan calendar – the world is going to end in just one month’s time.

In exactly 30 days from now, on December 21, the Earth’s “end date” will be upon us, say some believers, marking the end of a cycle stretching back some 5,125 years.

A host of theories have suggested the date will signal the end of the world, either by the Earth being pulled into a black hole called Sagittarius A, or through a magnetic reversal in forces at the North and South Poles.

The countdown has prompted religious groups across the globe to prepare for Armageddon, with sales of blast shelters rocketing in the US, while other believers have sought refuge in remote French villages.

Now the Daily Echo is starting its own countdown to D-Day, to find out what you will be doing to make the most of Earth’s final days.

And with the clock already ominously ticking, we will also be forming our own unique bucket list.

From travelling the globe to gambling away those hard earned life savings, from abseiling to learning to juggle, we will bring you our comprehensive list of things to do before that fatal day arrives.

Today would be the perfect time to seek salvation from the upcoming apocalypse, by making a start on the 66 books of the Bible.

That’s because, in 30 days, it has been proved possible to memorise one entire book, to recite during the world’s final moments.

Or, for the more adventurous reader, why not pay a visit to 30 East Drive, Pontefract, Yorkshire, a property that was infamously haunted in the 1960s and 1970s.

Earlier this year it even became the subject of the film When the Lights Go Out, which looked into the story of a violent poltergeist, dubbed the Black Monk.

The ghost is said to have thrown the homeowner from her bed and dragged her upstairs by her hair.
