THE Bestival family are used to making the world of festivals bigger, better and brighter - and this year's Common People is no exception.

Pushing the boundaries of bobbing up and down to the very limit, organisers are bringing the world’s biggest bouncy castle to Southampton this weekend.

Aiming to add to their accolades for the world’s largest fancy dress party, the biggest busk ever and the colossal disco ball, this is the greatest inflatable on earth and it's making its debut at Common People.

Brought to the city by the team behind Bestival's Inflatable Church, it is 23.8m long, 20.7m wide and 12.8m high.

Smashing an almost 20-year-old world record for size, the side turrets of the bouncy castle are equal in height to the walls of Cardiff Castle, making it taller than the Great Wall of China and roughly three times the size of the Berlin Wall!

Filled with 1143 cubic metres of air it can comfortably accommodate 100 pleasure-seeking festivalgoers at one time.

Curator Rob da Bank said: “We do love breaking a record and this is one of our funnest builds so far. Me and my mate Matt from the infamous Inflatable Church had a pipe dream about five years ago of building the world’s biggest bouncy castle, and this summer we’re making that a reality.

"So polish your socks and step up for what will be one of the most innocent of pleasures - bouncing up and down with gay abandon with your mates, family or friendly strangers. See you on the castle!”

The bouncy castle makes its debut at Common People this Saturday and Sunday and then visits Camp Bestival from July 28 to 31 and Bestival from September 8 to 11.

Common People sees headline appearances from Craig David and Duran Duran, as well as dozens of musical acts over four stages and tons of fun for all the family.

Organisers have told the Daily Echo that although ticket sales have been strong, they expect there to be a number of tickets at the box office for people who haven’t made their bank holiday weekend plans yet.
