IT is enough to make your mouth – and eyes – water.

This gargantuan meat feast is the calorific creation of chefs at one Southampton pub which claims it is Britain’s biggest burger.

Max Greenwood, 31, is the owner of The Rockstone pub in Bevois Valley and came up with the idea after learning that Plymouth restaurant JD’s Grill had rustled up a 25lb effort earlier this month.

But Southampton can now “steak” a claim as the true home of giant burgers after Rockstone chefs conjured up an effort weighing in at a whopping 34lb.

The mighty meat patty was pieced together using steak mix, while the huge bun was baked to order by Speciality Breads on the Isle of Wight.

The bottom consists of six pizza bases, and the burger is garnished with a mass of bacon, cheese, salad and pickles.

Regulars at the pub were overawed by the burger, which acted as the centrepiece during a day of a charity fundraising on Saturday.

Hungry diners managed to get their mouths around the behemoth after putting cash in the donation box – with all funds raised going to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Southampton Sight.

The burger was also cooked to mark a series of Oxjam music events in the city, with the venue getting on board by hosting an evening of bourbon and blues in the evening.

Max said: “We made the burger in about 15 minutes but it was in the oven for three hours.”
