HAVE you got what it takes to design a cake fit for the Queen?

Waitrose, which has supermarkets in Hampshire, is inviting people across the area to design a cake to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday next year.

The winning design will be created for the retailer’s organic brand of Waitrose Duchy Organic fruit cake, and will be sold exclusively in Waitrose branches in celebration of the the Queen’s birthday.

Urging residents to rise to the challenge, Waitrose’s marketing director, Rupert Thomas said: “We are a nation of passionate and creative cooks and I know that the designs will be fit for such an historic celebration. We’ll be looking for cake designs that not only look really lovely but which also show what the Queen means to all of us.”

The winning design will be chosen by a panel including well-known cake maker Fiona Cairns and organisers of one of the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations which will be held at Windsor Castle next May.

Anyone interested in designing a cake for Britain’s longest serving monarch’s 90th birthday is asked to send an email with their name, age, address, daytime telephone number, and a photograph or scanned drawing of their cake design to cake.competition@waitrose.co.uk. Emails should be no larger than 10GB.

The closing date at midnight on Thursday October 15.

Organisers add that anyone who wants to recreate the winning design at home will be able to get the details on how to make the cake will be available to get details online at waitrose.com.
