I’LL have a Colin Firth and a special Bangkok prawn rice please.

They’re not the words you would expect to be saying when ordering a meal at a Thai restaurant – unless you are dining in Winchester’s Bangkok Brasserie that is.

The exquisite Jewry Street restaurant – in the home city of double Oscar winning Mr Firth – has dedicated one of its dishes to the Hollywood star and it’s unsurprisingly proving rather popular with customers.

The Colin Firth Thai Mango Chicken was created and named in honour of Colin, whose parents David and Shirley live in Winchester and are regular visitors.

And it’s proving such a hit that Brasserie staff are taking around 100 orders of the tantalising curry dishes each month.

Owner Miff Kayum said he made the decision to create the mouth-watering dish after approaching Mr and Mrs Firth to ask their permission – and after checking with their movie-star son they gave it their full blessing.

And as a double temptation to those dining out there, part of the cost of the unusual curry is given to the Southampton and Winchester Visitors Group which supports refugees and asylum seekers – a cause Colin himself is passionate about.

When the Daily Echo called by to sample the delights at the popular eaterie it was easy to see what all the fuss was about.

The Colin Firth – or Geang Kari Mamuang – tops the bill of house specials and is a delicious yellow curry with slices of mango. With a light and creamy texture, it boasts the traditional Thai freshness but leaves your tastebuds with an enjoyable kick.

The Bangkok Brasserie staff were quick to show off their other culinary delights and we were presented with a feast of delectable dishes to show us just how extensive their menu is.

It’s hard to pick a highlight because each was so mouth-wateringly good – but I’d definitely go back for the prawn blanket starter that’s served with a chilli sauce and the perfectly cooked crispy seabass topped with a spicy green apple salad that I couldn’t help but keep returning to until it was almost gone!

Portions are so sizeable that completing three courses is not for the faint-hearted – but if you’ve worked up an appetite and there’s a tiny space for something sweet don’t miss the fresh Thai mango served with sweet sticky rice to complete your real Thai experience.
