THEY produce some of the most authentic Italian food in Britain.

Staff at a restaurant in Southampton are celebrating today after being voted among the top ten in the country.

Ennios Al Porto in Town Quay Road is the seventh best trattoria in England according to the Bertolli Spread Olive D’Oro and BBC Good Food campaign.

Manager Christopher Harrison said: “I am really gobsmacked. We usually win in Hampshire but to be voted among the top in England is sensational and really good for Southampton.”

Villa Romana in Fareham also made the top ten, coming ninth in the national vote.

Its manager Maurizio Dipancrazio said: “We are really pleased because it shows hard work pays off and that our customers appreciate that.”

Justa like Mama used to make. Shame Mama was from Germany. Joking aside the food is spot on.

Where did Lupa come? Always lovely food there and the coffee is most excellent.

It must have changed a lot then. Unfortunately my, one and only ever visit was several years ago when we were served microwaved, defrosted lasagne swimming in water. If they have turned it round since then, I congratulate them.

Can't think why they would have added water to your lasagne, microwaved or otherwise. Maybe they had been watching Heston Blumenthal.

Only time I went to Ennios water started flooding through the electrical light fixings from the hotel above. To be fair I doubt that happens that often. Lupa is great food at great prices but service can be dreadful - you'll get each member of staff come to you every minute until they get busy, then you'll have to wait an hour just to get a menu. Best Italian in Southampton is Milan. Great food, great prices, and great service.

And if you want to venture further try La Fenice in Eastleigh. The food is very good and the waitresses are very nice!!! Lovely atmosphere as well.

I ate at Ennios for the first time last month. The food and the service were first class. Congratulations to them.

I went a few years ago, food was very expensive for hardly anything and tasted awful. Service was also very poor. Avoid!!

Puccinis!!! Are you serious? Go to Italy and eat and then tell us if it tastes 'Italian' there !!

Just Googled their menu - it's only 3 times what I paid in Venice last week - so I would expect it to be good!
