Thieves with plenty of front can’t resist Nice Baps sign in Southampton

Nice Baps in Southampton Nice Baps in Southampton

IT’S a shop front that undoubtedly draws a smirk or laugh from passers-by.

But now pranksters have stolen the sign from above a Southampton cafe called Nice Baps while the owner nipped out.

Sanjeev Sharma, pictured left, was stunned to find the frontage of the business , which he has recently taken over, had vanished.

He said: “I feel really upset. I don’t have a clue why anyone has done this. Perhaps because it is made of heavy aluminium?”

The sign was stolen from the premises in Bevois Valley Road between 7.45am and 8.15am.

Mr Sharma is offering a £50 reward for its safe return in good condition, despite changing the business’s name to Cosmo Cafe.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.

I would have said it was students because that would be like so hilarious yar, but the fact this happened at 8 in the morning makes me think otherwise.

Publicity stunt. Why does he want the sign back if he's changing the name to Cafe Cosmo? Hopefully the Echo can keep us abreast of the situation.

Thieves have got some front. I trust the Police are keeping abreast of the situation.

What is "heavy aluminium"?. I've never heard of that, is that the same stuff they make airplanes out of?

I guess it raised many little titters.

Could have been student out on the lash all night on their gap yar, bet the owner feels like a right nice baps

This stinks of a cheap publicity stunt by the owner - its too busy and public a road for a thief to have taken this at that time of day. Come on Echo, investigate this immediately.

I hate these threads when they descend into a series of puns. It doesn't half get on my tits.

Additional generic breast-related pun here.

Rick Stein (the chef) recently said he'd opened a restaurant and someone kept putting a 'P' at the front now, that's funny!

Don't hate these threads everyone.
No need to knock the Knockers.

If he had kept the sign on a well placed rack that might have helped or placed some bangers nearby to scare people away

Clever buisnessman using the echo for free publicity...........
fake theft and more column space than a paying ad.

Heavy Aluminimum = made of aluminimum and it's heavy I expect.

£50 reward is probably way cheaper than buying a whole new sign, the existing one can then just have a new vinyl print stuck over it and it becomes a very cost effective bit of signage.

I can't see that he'd report a theft to the police if it wasn't true, he'd have to be pretty stupid as I'm sure the consequences could far outweigh the benefits.

I can't believe he's changing the name!

If I were the owner I'd take the name and run with it - a whole range of breast related goods.

i found some of the comments very titillating. perhaps the truck that was driving around collecting scrap saw it as a nice little earner either as a pair of heavy Baps or a tidy piece of Aluminium
either way someone has made a right Tit out of the owner. As if some one would climb above his shop to get a handfull of baps and rip down the sign i think he's 'aving a laugh .

Dictionary definition suggests it is liable to droop with age.
Calls to mind the story of a certain 'mature' local pub landlady trying to sell her wares to a discerning pre-match pub-full with a plaintive cry of:
"Anyone fancy me baps?"
The said bread based delicacies remained largely unsold.

Georgem says...

Maybe it was stolen by a rival sandwich shop. "Lovely Baps" in Fleet might be looking to expand, and don't want any competition in the retail pun industry.

My mate has just sold the shop to this gentleman - but took the name "Nice Baps" with him, I don't know why he's had a new sign made in the first place?? Either way, theft is theft isn't it? Good luck to the Cosmo Cafe - sure it will be a great success

If the sign had been made by the sign company next door I'm sure they would have squeezed in an erroneous apostrophe or two. According to their own signage, they sell T-shirts' and Polos'...!

I 'wonder' what he 'nipped' out for? Bet he feels a right 'tit' now. He should 'implant' better safety measures to ensure nothing will happen next time he 'pops out'.
I hope he is still trading as Im in need of' A cup' of tea.
'Breast' story so 'bra' today. It certainly 'perked' up my day.
I 'underwear' the sign has ended up

Bet you only get your hair done at a Punny Hair Dressers? Or do you write Sun headlines.
Personally I don't trust anyone whose main stock in trade is a supposedly funny 'Carry On' name.
