Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today that Mortal Kombat will be kicking and punching its way onto the PlayStation Vita in spring 2012. This latest version has been designed specifically for portable gaming and packs some exclusive content.
Mortal Kombat sold over three million copies world wide throughout 2011, and developers NetherRealm are hoping to add to that by packing the game with over-the-top fatalities and wince-inducing X-ray moves.
Ed Boon, Creative Director of NetherRealm studios commented: “The original game content and new features we developed for the PlayStation Vita will provide gamers with the best fighting game experience available on the new mobile platform.”
For us at The Southern Daily Echo, we see it as another major plus point to getting a PlayStation Vita. Although the units may seem a little expensive, they’re already shaping up to be particularly well supported in terms of software being developed. There are many die-hard fans of Mortal Kombat out there, so this has potential to do both really well for not just the Mortal Kombat franchise, but for the system in general.
And who knows? We may even get to see Kratos have his spine removed in an over-the-top fatality move.
