IT FEELS like I’m in a bubble. It’s like my eyelids are made of lead and I’m sitting in a warm, high-pressure environment. I wouldn’t be so tired if it were not for my moonlighting.

By day, I’m an office worker whilst at night I’m part of a larger family. At night I join my comrades to fight by their sides. At night I’m a Commando working for the Seryi Volk Executive Response.

Up to 128 of us stand toe-to-toe in order to battle against and hopefully thwart the oncoming onslaughts from enemies of equally high numbers. A feeling of anticipated fear lingers in the air, the smell of putrid sweat clogging our noses.

But the stench and the atmosphere are the last things on our minds, as we sit and wait, poised and ready to fire. This is what we’re here for – to fight for the cause.

The first sound to break the eerie silence is one of our snipers sitting in a tower located just behind us. It’s one single sound and one single shot that paves the way to a dozen bullets whistling out their roughly composed dirge as they slice their way through the air above our heads.

I must return fire, I must kill, I must survive and I must progress. If I gain enough experience from this battle I’m sure to gain my next badge. And with that I will be rewarded with the use of new skills and abilities.

Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not all smiles and gleeful camaraderie. When death occurs, as it so often does, the nurse back to full-health can be a long and painful process.

Brutal and bloody as it may be, I’ve grown to love the beauty of the battlefield. When I’m not there, I crave it. When I am there, I love it. Looking through the blood-tinted visor of my battle helmet whilst blocking out the screams of agonising death, I look over this glorious battlefield – it’s one of the finest there is.

Starting off as a PMC, I was gradually broken in to the larger battles. At first I was only deployed to smaller firefights in order to get my battle legs, but after a short while I was in the thick of it.

The pace at which we battle is a happy medium, not too slow, but not incredibly quick at the same time.

I enjoy being part of this team and can see myself battling long in to the future. I would happily recommend any PlayStation 3 owner to sign up today – your team needs you
