In it’s newest form, the world of Albion is awash with pollution from the dawning of it’s industrial age, whilst the lush forests and quaint residential towns are as picturesque as anywhere imaginable. It’s a beautiful conjuring of a place with variety, detail, charm and personality.
Humour is plentiful, although sometimes bordering on silly, whilst the games main aim is a serious and tough to reach target. Players must follow the mystical Road to Rule and become the King and ruler of Albion.
Players are faced with huge – really HUGE – options in both the beginning of the game and as King. These options have a large impact on almost everything - the world, the weapons and the people.
Menu time has mostly been eradicated as players now travel to The Sanctuary when they press the 'Start' button, a hub that works as a virtual menu to be explored.
But these aromas and scents of beauty and delight are horrifying spoiled by a stinker of a combat system. It's simple, repetitive and boring - slash, spell, shoot - yawn.
In despite of this, gamers will love Fable III because of the effect that they have on the world around them. They'll love the real-estate investing, the business buying, the menial slogging, the treasure hoarding, the character developing and the story unfolding. There's plenty to do in Albion and most of it can be exhilarating to be a part of.
With superb visuals, some great dialogue and an intriguing story, Fable III is a great RPG that's well worth checking out.
