IT was The Answer’s first time in Southampton and judging by the capacity crowd at The Brook it was long awaited.

The Answer cut their teeth supporting the likes of Whitesnake, Aerosmith and AC/DC, and it shows. This is a tight, slick powerhouse of sound.

It’s hard to believe that this band has only been around since 2000 as the whole feel of the night is the heyday of gigs of the 70’s.

You can hear the Irish folk influences, shades of Zeppelin and the cover of their beloved Rory Gallagher’s ‘Cradle Rock’ sits beautifully in the set.

Cormac Neeson’s distinctive vocals never falter and it’s hard to believe that this full rich sound is made by only Paul Mahon’s guitar.

Memphis Water is as heartfelt a piece of southern blues as you could wish for and Spectacular, from latest album New Horizon sure-footedly grooved along.

A perfect slice of classic rock.
