THE WAYNFLETE SINGERS

THE Waynflete Singers, supported by first-class solo singers and the English Chamber Orchestra, are performing Mozart and Haydn’s finest music tomorrow at Winchester Cathedral.

The event audience is in for a musical treat from two of Mozart’s greatest pieces. The epic Requiem is Mozart’s final work, including the famous Dies Irae and Lacrimosa movements.

The instantly recognisable and popular Symphony number 40 in G Minor is famous for its frequent use in film and television and marks the renowned English Chamber Orchestra’s own contribution to the concert.

Haydn’s Te Deum, a lively and joyful choral piece, completes the programme.

The concert is the last chance to hear Hampshire’s leading non-professional choir before they record for BBC Radio2’s annual Good Friday broadcast At the Foot of the Cross. This will see the choir recording Fauré’s much-loved Requiem alongside the BBC Symphony Orchestra which will then be broadcast to an audience of millions on Good Friday evening.

JAZZMANIX

They are the University of Southampton’s largest choir and they are celebrating their 18th birthday with a trip to Winchester!

Under the musical direction of Evie Asio-Okwalinga and Joe Nurse, the choir and its spectacular eight-piece band promise to present an enthusiastic and eclectic mix of pop and gospel tunes that everyone will love.

A concert of two halves, the evening will feature small vocal harmony groups followed by the vibrant main performance from the choir as a whole.

Enjoy it at Theatre Royal Winchester on Sunday.

WINCHESTER SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

DESCRIBED as the most gifted of young British pianists at his debut, Robert Bridge has followed a varied and acclaimed career as soloist and chamber music recitalist, including broadcasts for the BBC Promenade Concerts, Wigmore Hall concerts with the Koenig Ensemble and tours abroad.

He joins the Winchester Symphony Orchestra on Sunday at Thornden Hall in Chandler’s Ford to play the uncharacteristically lively and light-hearted Concerto no. 2 for Piano.

This delightful work will be presented with two others, Symphony no. 6 by Ralph Vaughan Williams and the Cockaigne Overture by Elgar.
