ACTS for Winchester’s annual one-day festival of Americana and roots have been announced after a name change from sxsc to sc4m.

Previously knownas South By South Central, organiser Oliver Gray was forced to change the name when threatened with litigation from the South By South West Festival in Texas, which claims it holds copyright over the letters sxs.

Despite the Winchester festival being a small local event catering for just 120 people, they were insistent.

So with that, sc4m – South Central For Music –was born.

The 2014 event welcomes a stellar line-up to the Railway in Winchester on September 7, with nine acts performing over two rooms.

The acts include Danny and the Champions of the World, often referred to as the UK’s most exciting live act, The Travelling Band and The Rails, who are poised on the brink of stardom and feature Richard and Linda Thompson’s daughter Kami and her husband James Walbourne (Pretenders, Pogues). Also on the bill are The Railway’s lucky mascot Peter Bruntnell, blues and country fromRob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra, and tongue-in-cheek songs from the former leader of the Broken Family Band, Steven James Adams.

They line up alongside Patrick Duff, the ex-lead singer of Strangelove, the fascinating Flight Brigade, super-cool new young band Hot Feet and Josh Savage, Winchester’s bilingual star in the making.
