NATIONAL singing competition ‘Open Mic UK’ is set to return to Hampshire to search for upcoming stars.

Launched in 2008, the annual event is the UK’s largest talent scouting competition, with over 9000 people competing over a 17 day period last year.

Now, Open Mic UK promises to be “even bigger this year” with auditions to be held in Fareham in September.

Music of every kind of genre whether it be urban, pop, acoustic or classical is encouraged.

Singers, vocal groups, rappers and solo artists who perform will be judged for their chance to win over £50,000 worth of prizes, including a main award of £5,000 for the overall winner.

Previous winners include Lymington’s own Birdy who, following her win in 2008, exploded onto the music scene with her debut single cover of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love.

Auditions are to be held on Sunday, September 14, at Ferneham Hall, Fareham.
