When Dizzee Rascal took to the stage at a Hampshire music festival it went truly bonkers.

All day Saturday everyone was waiting for Dizzee Rascal to bring his brand of hip hop to Southsea's Victorious festival - and he didn't disappoint.

From the moment he opened with his bass-heavy hits Just A Rascal and Fix Up Look Sharp it was shock and awe.

Daily Echo:

With a bass as thick as treacle which shattered dental fillings Dizzee packed out the area to the entire front of the stage.

His hits just kept on coming and the crowd lapped it up.

Keen to get into the crowd his stage presence made for an exhilarating spectacle which is more than can be said for some of the other performers.

Daily Echo:

He closed the one-hour set with a spine-tingling supreme performance of Bonkers which left the only question over how the organisers are going to top that?

Lead singer Johnny Borrell is the only original member left of Razorlight, below, who came on before Dizzee and the fact they haven't had a hit in years was very obvious.

Daily Echo:

What made it worse was a cold performance which got few cheers.

Their presence on today's music scene is similar to that of Scouting For Girls, below, but that quartet had no problem whipping up the crowd.

Daily Echo:

It seems there are plenty of teenagers still singing along to tracks like She's So Lovely and Elvis Ain't Dead.

The crowd might have been wanting disco from Sophie Ellis-Bextor, below,  but she charmed a crowd happy to hear her new, alternative material.

Daily Echo:

Over on the a very breezy Seaside Stage, Brighton band The Watermelons were Vampire Weekend-lite with only one half-decent song, Wait.

At the end of the night, revellers continued to party as they slowly made their way back towards the Seaside Stage where Gus from Alt-J was doing a DJ set.

A little slow to get going, the crowd were making bigger shapes on than by the main stage where Subfocus was having sound problems.

The most interesting and quirky band of the day was Irish folk band Mary Jane who played Guns N Roses's Sweet Child o' Mine with a recorder and a fiddle in the Real Ale tent.

I wasn't expecting much from the five-piece band but they were a happy distraction over a pint of beer.

Today's headliners at Victorious Festival include blues guitarist Seasick Steve, Brit Pop rockers Ocean Colour Scene and Shed Seven and indie band British Sea Power. Tickets are still available.
