James Blunt’s appearance at the Wickham Festival has given a massive boost to a Hampshire charity.

The international superstar’s stunning sell-out show has seen donations double to the Two Saints organisation, which helps homeless and vulnerable people.

As the festival’s nominated charity it received a percentage of T-shirt and programme sales, guest ticket revenue plus donations from concert-goers on the night.

With an increased capacity of 7,000 for the gig by the Hampshire singer Two Saints have picked up a cheque for £4,432, more than twice the sum they received last year.

Festival organiser Peter Chegwyn said: “We are delighted we have been able to help such a worthwhile cause. James Blunt’s appearance made a huge difference but he was also a delight to work with.

“He was a really nice guy, who took time to meet some of our stewards and staff, who were supplied by Two Saints and he seemed genuinely interested in the charity and their work.”

Two Saints team leader Jamie Hutchison added: “We are extremely grateful to James Blunt and to the Wickham Festival for this donation, which will make a big difference to us and to the homeless and vulnerable people we help.

“As well as offering good quality accommodation or helping people to stay in their own homes we also help people to develop skills to break the cycle of homelessness, poverty, and exclusion. That costs a lot of money so every donation makes a difference.”

Next year’s Wickham Festival will be a week earlier, August 6-9 and those who book before September 8 can save £50 as well as having the chance to win a T-shirt signed by James Blunt.
