IT has given thousands of indie music fans the opportunity to put on their dancing shoes and look good on the dance floor.

The Southampton-based Psychedelia South club night is synonymous with music fans across the south coast by providing a platform for some of the country’s rising rock and roll bands, as well as spinning classics from the 50s right up until the present day.

Now the promotion is set to celebrate its fourth birthday with a four-night celebration boasting a stellar line-up of local and national acts.

Gigs will be held at Lennons nightclub and The Cellar from October 15 to 18 and will feature headline sets from Eagulls, Shotaway, New Desert Blues, Wild Smiles, and a DJ set from Southampton’s own global stars Band of Skulls.

There will also be support performances from the likes of Kid Ackley, Hot Tropics, The Plastic Beats Band, and Kassassin Street.

The Psychedelia team consists of friends Tom Dyer, Sam Jolly, Benjamin Maney, and Char Adams, and was formed with a mutual passion for music.

Tom, who describes Psychedelia as a “nostalgia trip with no gimmicks and just great music and people,” said: “We have worked with hundreds of bands in the past few years - some that disappear into thin air, and others that go on to play the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, or have a number one album.

“We always try to book and work with bands that we love as it’s very hard to promote something that you’re not into.

“Temples, Royal Blood and The Subways are some of the more memorable shows and it is a great feeling to see a band that you have worked with on a few occasions who then go on to play to thousands of people.

Daily Echo:

“The birthday weekend is becoming increasingly difficult to book and put together every year. We don't ever repeat bands that have played before and we fund it all so the majority of the weekend is free entry. This year’s overall line-up is the strongest yet, and seems to have a lot more of a buzz surrounding it than previous years.

“As long as everyone enjoys the shows, we are happy!”

Tickets for Eagulls at Lennons in Onslow Road on October 15 are priced at £6 in advance.

There is free entry for Shotaway on October 16, New Desert Blues on October 17, and Wild Smiles on October 18.
