BRACE yourselves. The musical whirlwind that is Sheelanagig, below, hits Talking Heads in Southampton tomorrow!

And they are supported by Southampton’s own State of Undress.

Sheelanangig’s vibrant, exuberant, and energetic live performance of their Balkan-influenced gypsy jazz music blends amazing musicianship with theatrical, circus-style and musical on-stage antics in which they never miss a beat. This is not just a gig. This is an experience!

Formed in 2005, this high-octane five-piece play a wide variety of instruments including guitar, violin, flute, banjo, and double bass. They have gigged extensively across the UK and Europe playing all sorts of venues from pubs to theatres and from free street carnivals to major festivals like Beautiful Days and Glastonbury.

Their gig at Talking Heads is part of a UK tour which sees them take in venues such as The Boileroom in Guildford, Salisbury City Hall and the iconic Half Moon in Putney.

Locally-based State of Undress – themselves a feisty fiddle-fuelled five-piece, are delighted to be opening the evening.

Charlie Rose, lead singer and co-writer with State of Undress was in the audience at the Behind the Castle Festival in Sherborne this summer when Sheelanagig were one of the headline bands.

She says: “We’d heard of Sheelanagig but this was the first time we’d seen them. We were just blown away by their performance – so much fun and such great music – it’s impossible to stand still when they play! And as I was watching them I said: ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could open for these guys some time?’”

Well, that time is tomorrow at Talking Heads, 320 Portswood Road, Southampton SO17 2TD. Doors open at 7.30pm.

Music starts at 8.30pm.

Tickets are £8.00 in advance from the venue or online (plus 10 per cent booking fee) thetalking heads.co.uk or £10 on the door.
