SOUTHAMPTON football coach Tom Mann and his band Stereo Kicks will be hoping to hear the sweet sound of success as they battle to win over X Factor judges tonight on the live show.

Last night the band changed their song at the eleventh hour to Mack the Knife - and won a standing ovation from Cowell and their mentor Walsh.

While Ben Haenow's version of Cry Me A River won him praise from Mel B, who said: ''It was a good performance and a good delivery.''

But Fernandez-Versini was less impressed, and told him: ''You have been so versatile through each week. Tonight, for me, this wasn't your week. You have been Buble-d.'' - referring to Canadian crooner Michael Buble.

Tom, 21, and his bandmates are now working harder than ever to win the top prize – a life-changing recording contract.

Now they and their supporters back home in Southampton will be holding their breaths to see if they survive another exciting week in the X Factor competition.

Last Saturday the ITV talent show judges praised the band members cool professionalism after a man invaded the stage during their performance but they carried on singing.

The imposter turned out to be a comedian called Lee Nelson who mimed along as the band sang Michael Jackson’s You are not Alone!

The 37-year-old doctor-turned funnyman – the alter-ego of comedian Simon Brodkin – suddenly appeared mid-song to temporarily become the ninth band-member.`

The boys continued to perform with utmost professionalism and within seconds of Louis Walsh jumping up and down, Mel B screaming for him to be removed and Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini staring on flabbergasted, a production staff member had ran across the stage and pulled Lee off.

The word going round was that he had then been kneed in the private parts by a make-up girl.

Fortunately the drama had no adverse affects on Stereo Kicks who were voted through by viewers to this week’s competition – qualifying for a slot on the forthcoming X Factor Live Tour.

Tom’s sister Sophie Buckley told the Daily Echo: “It’s been tough getting hold of Tom this week! He’s had a full on week of rehearsals with a full band! But he told me he is ‘so excited’ to be on the X Factor tour! He said: ‘That’s our first goal as a band achieved; now we want to try and win this competition!’”

Sophie added: “Tom said they’re having the most fantastic week working with a Big Band! They’re singing Mirror by Justin Timberlake and are really happy with how it’s sounding.”

But, as always, she urges local people to get behind Tom and Stereo Kicks and vote for them this weekend – as it is the only way to stay in the competition.
