FROM performing at Bestival to sharing the stage with the likes of Cage the Elephant and Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip – it’s safe to say Somahigh are reaching for the top.

The Southampton four-piece have been described as an alluring mix of Blur, Bloc Party and Queens of the Stone Age, creating a unique sonic wave of sound.

Tomorrow they will hit Lennon’s in Onslow Road to play the Club Psychedelia night with Cold Ocean Lies.

The band began life when singer-song writer Sean Strugnell and bass player Leon Azor were introduced to the Camden music scene by Buzzcocks legend Steve Diggle.

Since then Somahigh grew and added keyboard player Paul Wolf and drummer Ryan Smith to the line-up.

They have devised an adventurous sound, toured extensively, and released music through independent record label the Animal Farm. Ryan told the Daily Echo: “Our sound has definitely progressed because of the way it is written with different samples and sounds.

“A lot of people say we sound quite slick and tight as a band. WE get compared to Muse but our sound stems from modern Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, a bit of Bloc Party and Blur too.

“It’s definitely an electronic sound, but alternative electronic.”

Ryan says the band gets a buzz from performing live and their music is enjoyed by fans of all ages.

“We played Portsmouth a month ago and we had a woman in her 70s come up to us afterwards and said she adored our music”, Ryan added.

Somahigh took ten days out to create their album last year and finished recording it with multi-Grammy award nominee Mandy Parnell at Black Saloon Studios, which has an extensive roster including Bjork, Chemical Brothers and Suede.

Ryan said: “I would say someone who has never seen us before can expect an epic and uplifting set of electronic sounds with a club feel. The bass hits you in the stomach and the driving guitars and thumping drums definitely means it will be a good show.”

Somahigh are on stage at 10.45pm and admission is £4 on the door, or £2 by writing their name on the Club Psychedelia Facebook page.
