THEY are the soulful supergroup who pioneered the British urban music scene.

And after a quarter of a century in the game, Soul II Soul showed they can Keep On Movin well into the 21st century.

The legendary RnB act performed a vintage set at Bournemouth’s O2 Academy for the group’s 25th anniversary tour.

Dreadlocked frontman Jazzie B is renowned for shaping black music in the 1980s and 1990s with their seminal album Club Classics Vol. One.

The DJ and producer donned his trademark rasta hat, taking to the stage in a black T-shirt bearing a green and gold sparkling Funki Dred logo of the group’s famous branded clothing line.

Lead singer Caron Wheeler looked magnificent in her long, flowing dreadlocks and unleashing her powerful voice over deep bass beats.

The energetic live band featuring backing singers, string section and electric guitars gave a crisp, funky and fresh edge which got everybody dancing.

They got the party in full flow, rattling through their back catalogue tunes such as Keep On Movin, Love Enuff and Back to Life (However Do you Want Me).

Special guests singer Soulful Emma-Louise (SEL) and the bouncy MC Chickaboo provided extra flavour, with the latter fronting in a rousing version of Get a Life.

After bidding the audience goodnight, the group returned to the stage for an electric encore taking it back to their earliest hit Fairplay.

As ovations echoed round the hall, Jazzie signed off with the lines: “Remember Soul II Soul is about a happy face, a thumping bass, for a loving race.”
