AN EASTLEIGH theatre is on the hunt for singers to form a choir for an interactive performance.

The Point is hosting auditions to find 30 people for Verity Standen’s unique acapella sound bath HUG, hot off the heels of its acclaimed run at Edinburgh Festival where it was nominated for a Total Theatre Award.

HUG sees the audience blindfolded to experience the performance through sound, breath and vibrations of the body as they are hugged by a choir member as they deliver the song.

Artistic director at The Point, Owen Calvert-Lyons, said local people are needed to make up the choir.

He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is passionate about singing.

“Our community choir will have the opportunity to learn from Verity, who is an experienced and distinctive acapella composer, as well as the chance to perform in this production.”

Open auditions are being held on January 24 from midday until 5pm.

HUG is at The Point from March 11-13.

Singers need to be available from March 7-10 for rehearsals.
