A NEW music night showcasing the best talent in the south launches in Southampton tomorrow night.

The Alex in Bellevue Road is launching Free Music Friday nights, starting with popular Southampton band Brother Goose.

Last year’s Road to Blissfields winners have sold-out shows at The Joiners and Lennon’s behind them and recorded the official song for Sholing FC for their FA Vase final appearance at Wembley.

They will be joined by Sunday Club, who will be making their full live debut.

Bands such as The Novatones, Solar Wolf, Eagle & The Weeks and Blind Man’s Vision have already been booked for live shows in the coming weeks.

Bar manager Joe Khalil said: “With the recent closure of some of the area’s smaller music venues, we wanted to be able to provide a space where musicians can showcase their talents, without the added pressure of selling tickets to encourage people along.

“When I was asked if I’d be interested in helping host these nights,Ijumped at the chance.”

Co-promoter Jodie Copeland said: “The live music scene is very important at a grassroots stage and it made sense to make use of the space at The Alex.

“We’re very excited with some of the acts we have lined up in the coming months; from the raucous and lively Novatones and BullyBones in March to local trip-hop stars Solar Wolf in April, who will be fresh from supporting Dreadzone on tour.”

Bands start at 8pm and live music will run until 11pm. DJs will keep the party going until 2am.
