SHE'S one of the most recognisable singers in the world - and she is headlining one of the biggest music festivals Southampton has ever seen.

Grace Jones will headline the Sunday night of the Common People festival on Southampton Common on May Bank Holiday weekend, it has been confirmed this morning.

Jones was initially a model before moving into music in the mid-1970s.

She reached stardom in the 1980s with albums Slave to the Rhythm and Island Life, and appeared in movies Conan the Destroyer, A View to a Kill, and Straight to Hell.

Her legacy is as strong as ever with her new wave sound inspiring the likes of Massive Attack, Hot Chip, and LCD Soundsystem.

She will be joined by buzz band Years & Years, who won the BBC Sound of 2015 poll, and have tasted chart success with their single King.

They join the likes of Fatboy Slim, De La Soul, Southampton's Band of Skulls, Clean Bandit, George the Poet, and DJ Yoda for the festival on May 23 - 24.
