ELECTRONIC duo Man Without Country are on a quest to redefine pop.

The Welsh two-piece, consisting of Ryan James and Tomas Greenhalf, embody a haunting minimalism yet an adventurous blend of synths and blissful harmonies.

Their brand of electronic disco has been compared to The Knife, Hurts, and even Pet Shop Boys, and has seen them remix everyone from Two Door Cinema Club to even Southampton’s own Band of Skulls.

They are enjoying the reception to new album Maximum Entropy, released in January, and will embark on an extensive UK tour in February, which includes an appearance at The Joiners in St Mary Street on Tuesday March 3.

Ryan told the Daily Echo: “We’ve done quite a bit of touring and our last show was in Berlin last year.

“We’ve played in Southampton before but it was at a club night or something. I do remember it as we had to go off stage because the fire alarm went off!

“We have been busy finishing the album. During touring writing can be quite a sporadic process.

“But the fan’s reaction has been amazing. We are proud of it.

“It’s nice when it is finished for people who have never heard it before.

“The first record was a trial and error process. As we were working on it, we were learning to record and mix ourselves. We wasted a lot of time and money.

“But we learned a lot from the first record and this time it was a lot easier.

“In our live shows we try and play things slightly different, to make it slightly different from the record.”
