THE founder of a popular alternative country band will play Winchester this weekend.

Mark Olson, singer-songwriter and Jayhawks creator, is set to play the Railway Inn as part of his album tour.

The Americana and country artist will showcase songs from the 11-track album Good-bye Lizelle, which was made alongside Norwegian singer and multi-instrumentalist Ingunn Ringvold.

The duo travelled from Armenia to South Africa, America to Norway and Finland to Czechia to record the poetic tunes.

Special guests on the album include Neal Casal, Aaron Sterling, Danny Frankel, and Oystein Greni, of Norway’s number one rock band Big Bang.

Good-bye Lizelle was recorded in various locations – apartments, cabins and outdoors in national parks – using a portable system to create a homemade and vintage atmosphere.

Mark left the Jayhawks in the mid 1990s, later releasing albums inspired by inter-railing across Europe (Salvation Blues, 2007, and Many Colored Kite, 2010).

In 2010, after a 15-year hiatus, Mark wrote and recorded the reunion album, Mockingbird Time, with the Jayhawks. Two years of touring America and Europe followed.

n Mark Olson will play The Railway Inn on Sunday with support from Canyon Ride.

Tickets cost £13 in advance or £15 on the door.
