EIGHTIES pop star Suzanne Vega has a special treat in store when she returns to the Isle of Wight Festival this summer.

Her greatest hits may have been 30 years ago but visitors to the Island’s biggest festival can see her sing a classic David Bowie song with the man who produced it.

The 55-year old will be gracing the stage with musical impresario and Bowie collaborator Tony Visconti at Seaclose Park in June.

The pair will be performing a cover of The Man Who Sold The World, which Visconti produced back in the early 1970s.

Speaking from her home in New York she said how much she was looking forward to it.

“It will be fantastic,” she said. “I performed this song for him for his 60th birthday here in New York. It was a great honour for me.

“I’m really looking forward to getting on stage with him at the festival.”

Bowie fans can also look forward to her touring with Bowie’s one-time musical director Jerry Leonard this summer.

Breaking out onto the charts in 1985 with her hit Marlene on the Wall, her next hit was in 1990 when Tom’s Diner was stuck in everyone’s head for weeks.

Now fans can get to hear the Californian songstress sing those songs as well as some of her new work from her latest album Tales From The Realm Of The Queen of Pentacles.

Although she will also be performing at the Anvil in Basingstoke, it’s her presence at the Isle of Wight festival which she is really looking forward to.

“I played there when it opened in 2002. [Festival organiser] John Giddings had been talking about it for many years before he got it set up.

“I know what it means to John, we’ve worked together for about 30 years now. It’s thrilling to be part of it,” she said.

Suzanne added that one of the benefits of playing at the historic festival is that new fans get to hear her music.

She said: “It’s quite surprising the age ranges of people who come to hear me play.

“Some people remember me from the 80s and others are a lot younger and are new to the music.

“You get people who are fans of Tom’s Diner and then you get people who are curious about the music.”

Suzanne will be playing at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival which is from June 11 to 14. She will also be playing at the Basingstoke Anvil on Sunday June 21.
