SHE has three children under the age of four but that hasn’t stopped Hampshire’s Kelly Peffers from following her dream of becoming a professional singer.

The 28-year-old from Bordon has been signed to London-based Downtown Artists, a studio that nurtures new musical talent and has hosted the likes of David Bowie and Ringo Starr.

She releases her first single I’m An Alien on July 4.

In addition to launching a pop career Kelly, who describes her musical genre as indie-folk, is currently rehearsing for her role in the am dram production Weird Sister at the Phoenix Theatre in Bordon.

And with husband Craig, 29, in the RAF, she clearly has to work hard at juggling her busy life-style.

“It’s a hectic schedule but I love it!” she said.

She started singing at 15.

“I did this performance at school – I was singing with my eyes shut and when I finished and opened them I saw that people’s faces had dropped! So I then did operatics at school and lots of shows.”

She initially did a diploma in foundation art at college in Plymouth and then did another in sound engineering and electronics.

“So I know how to wire a house and how to make a light circuit. I’m really interested in all that but it’s not what I really wanted to do.”

An audition for The X Factor failed to get her on the show but she got chatting to a girl there who recommended she contact Downtown Artists on London’s Oxford Street.

“I auditioned not expecting to get anywhere but they called me back a few hours later saying they would like to take me on!”

A multi-talented singer- songwriter and musician, Kelly plays guitar, ukulele, clarinet, bongos, drums and piano!

She says her new venture has prompted her to lose a staggering seven stone since last March, dropping from a size 20 to size 14.

But her motivation for following her dreams is she says down to her daughter.

“One day she turned round to me and said: ‘I want to be a singer like you Mummy’. I wanted to say: ‘You have to work at it’ but how could I? She was only three years old at the time and I was talking about careers. I sing an awful lot at home; I sing constantly and always play instruments – we get all the instruments out when my husband is away.

“After I had the kids I sat at home and thought what can I do? I was starting to feel depressed but didn’t know what I wanted to do so I joined The Phoenix Players. I’d also played in a few bands at school but nothing major. I went through this whole music or the kids thing but then I decided I needed to do something for myself: the passion for music was too strong not to do something.”

Kelly already has a second single scheduled for release at Christmas and added: “I can’t say much about it at the moment but it’s a very big project with some very big companies... I am so excited – so watch this space!”
