A FORMER Winchester Cathedral organist is returning to the city as part of an English and French tour.

David Hill will conduct Yale Schola Cantorum, a chamber choir supported by the Yale Institute of Sacred Music with Yale School of Music.

It specialises in repertoire from before 1750 and the last 100 years and records and tours internationally.

Mr Hill will direct the choir, alongside Juilliard415, on the 11-date tour including dates in Oxford, Cambridge and Paris.

The two ensembles are dedicated to historical performance practice and are committed to fostering relationships abroad and to recruiting international students for their degree programs.

David Hill has a long and distinguished career as one of the leading conductors in Europe.

His talent has been recognised by appointments as chief conductor of The BBC Singers, musical director of the Bach Choir, chief conductor of the Southern Sinfonia, music director of Leeds Philharmonic Society, and associate guest conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

Yale Schola Cantorum is at Winchester Cathedral on May 21 at 7.30pm. Admission is free.
