THEY are one of the biggest bands Britain has ever produced – and some thought this day would never come.

But Blur are back and about to appear at their first ever Isle of Wight Festival in what is a massive draw for the event at Seaclose Park, Newport.

The Britpop heroes were also the last headliner to be announced for this year and you could be forgiven for thinking their time was up after what seemed like a farewell tour at the end of the last decade.

Frontman Damon Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon have pursued their own solo careers and side projects while drummer Dave Rowntree trained as a solicitor with a sideline in radio presenting and bassist Alex James became well known for his cheesemaking.

Now the comeback is well and truly on with the release of new album, The Magic Whip, which went straight in at number one in the album charts, proving the love is very much still there 12 years after the release of their last album Think Tank.

There’s no doubt they will showcase much of their new material but old favourites like Parklife, Country House, Song 2 and The Universal. And with new focus, new material and a new stage to perform on this gig could just be their best yet.
