A Hampshire club which has become an international jazz mecca is taking part in a UK salute to jazz icon Billie Holiday.

This year would have been the 100th birthday of the American jazz superstar.

To mark the centenary the critically acclaimed tribute to Billie, Lady Sings The Blues is being staged throughout the UK and Europe, including Eastleigh’s Concorde on Wednesday June 24.

Some 30 songs from the wonderful Billie Holiday repertoire will be showcased by award winning British Jazz singer Val Wisemen.

She will be accompanied by top jazz musicians Digby Fairweather, Roy Williams, Alan Barnes, Brian Dee, Len Skeat and Eric Ford.

Billie Holiday, pictured, is on the cover of the Concorde’s newly released summer season programme which has a star studded line up of jazz, rock, soul and tribute acts.

The mouthwatering jazz menu includes Grammy nominated pianist Judy Carmichael (July 1) Bratislavia Hot Seranaders (July 15) Tribute to Louis Armstrong All Stars (July 22) Dutch Swing College Band (August 5) and the Concorde welcome the Kourosh Kanani Quartet – the hottest gypsy set up in the UK – on August 12.

An all star line up of musicians will on August 19 be celebrating the 45th anniversary of when the Concorde moved from the old Bassett pub in Southampton to its current Stoneham Lane home.

Singer/songwriter Paul Carrack makes a popular return to the Concorde on July 17 and eight piece soul band Rufus Stone take centre stage on August 1.

Former Saints star Matt Le Tissier, a regular pundit on Sky Soccer Saturday will on August 6 give his verdict on the new season, including a question and answer session The Foundations will on August 15 be re-creating those dance floor filling hits, like Build Me Up Buttercup and Now That I’ve Found You.

The Concorde has built up a huge reputation in saluting stars from the world of pop and it has a summer feast of tribute acts including The Hollies (July 3) The Ultimate Tribute Show (July 18) George Michael and Madonna (July 31) The All New Jersey Boys (August 7) Lady Gaga (August 14) and Robbie Williams (August 21) Abba Rival and Abba (August 22) The eighties invasion will hit The Concorde on July 24 and on July 25 the golden age of pop will be captured with the Swinging Sixties Show.
