IT WAS a famous record label which provided the soundtrack to the lives of millions of teenagers as they took dance floors by storm in the sixties.

Known as the Motown Sound it was a style of soul music spliced with a distinct pop influence.

Now Roy G Hemmings, longest serving member of The Drifters – the legendary American do-wop and R&B /soul group – will be headlining the Reach Out To Motown show at Eastleigh’s Concorde on June 26.

A Stoneham Lane club regular, Roy will be joined by the Love Supremes and Tops and Temps as they celebrate 50 years of Motown Magic.

The eight piece Dictionary of Soul will accompany a procession of hits by The Supremes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Steve Wonder and Lionel Ritchie and many more.

The Motown classics will include Baby Love, Dancing In The Street, My Girl, I Can’t Help Myself, I Heard It Through The Grapevnie and Reach Out.

A great showman and dynamic singer, Roy G Hemmings had worked alongside Drifters founder Johnny Moore for more than 10 years.

He has entertained audiences around the world in a career spanning four decades, including appearances in several Royal Variety shows and at The White House when Bill Clinton was president.
