BOURNEMOUTH Symphony Orchestra will perform with the newly-formed Inspiration Choir Southampton this weekend.

A brand-new community choir, Inspiration Southampton is giving its first concert of popular and powerful songs of stage, screen and more at the O2 Guildhall Southampton on Sunday.

Following an appeal for choir members in the Daily Echo inviting anyone who liked to sing – whether like Pavarotti or simply in the shower – the choir began weekly rehearsals in May.

Inspiration Southampton’s ethos is everyone can sing and singing in a large group is lifeaffirming and fulfilling in a way that few other activities can be.

The formation of this vibrant mass choir follows the success of Inspiration’s two hugelysuccessful mass choirs in Leeds and Newcastle with more than 600 members.

Inspiration founder, Gary Griffiths, will lead the day with a wide variety of pieces, from classical to pop to Broadway shows.

And joining in on Sunday will be 200 members of Inspiration Newcastle and Leeds.

West End conductor Pete Harrison, a regular guest with the BSO, was appointed as musical director of Inspiration Southampton.

Pete has worked with many top orchestras as well as working extensively in the West End on shows such as Crazy for You, Disney’s Beauty & the Beast and Lautrec.

He said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed as the new musical director of Inspiration Southampton.

“It’s such a great opportunity to carry on the work of the Newcastle and Leeds Inspiration choirs and to open this unique opportunity for everyone in the Southampton area is something very special.

“The chance to perform a wide range of repertoire with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra three times a year in major venues is truly unique.
