THE organisers behind a community festival across two Winchester villages have released the programme of events.

The Worthys Festival, which runs from September 19-27 in Kings and Headbourne Worthys, includes folk and jazz, competitions and an almighty campfire.

It starts on Saturday, September 19 from 10.30am with the Worthys Women’s Institute centenary celebration coffee morning at the church hall in Fraser Road.

Later that day, from 2pm-6pm, there will be family fun on the church green.

It has been organised by St Mary’s Church, Kings Worthy Scouts and the Guides and is sponsored by Headbourne Worthy Parish Council.

Juggling Jake will show off his tricks and for both budding and established musicians there is a folk and jazz festival, also on the church green.

Competition Worthys Got Talent, which has been organised by am-dram group Worthy Players, starts at 7pm in Jubilee Hall, with a bar run by Winchester Rotary.

The quieter option sees gardens across the Worthys open for teas and a film night at the King Charles pub from 9.30pm.

Day two, September 20, starts with a thanksgiving service at 10am at St Mary’s Church, followed by an open morning at Prince’s Mead School exhibiting children’s work.

From midday there will be over 20 street parties across the villages, including a community street party in Fraser Road.

Guided history walks start at 2pm and from 7pm there is jazz in the bowling alley at the Cart and Horses pub.

There is the chance to swap books from 10.30am on September 21 at the Kings Charles pub, and Kings Worthy School will host gardeners’ question time, followed by an open morning and scarecrow competition the following day.

Tuesday’s Place will run from 2pm-4pm at St Mary’s Church Hall, and scouts and guides will share spooky stories around the campfire from 6pm in the field off Lovedon Lane.

The King Charles pub will host a book club open evening from 7.30pm, and on September 23 junior film club from 4pm and Knit-Wits knitathon from 7.30pm.

Harwood Place Community Lounge is hosting a residents’ tea party at 3pm.

The much-anticipated village quiz is at Worthies Sport and Social Club from 7pm and will feature a round of local interest questions.

Local history walks continue on September 24 and there is a chance to enjoy off-road biking.

County councillor Jackie Porter will give a guided mosaics tour.

Jazz in the bowling alley at the Cart and Horses is on again from 7pm, and the King Charles pub will host Sing for your Supper open mic session from 8pm.

The Friday (September 25) will see a bell ringing session at St Mary’s Church from 7pm, a festival marquee at Eversley Park including food and beer festivals and a live big band all weekend.

Ceilidh is in the social club and entry is free.

Winchester Action Against Climate Change is hosting a swish and swap shop from 10am on September 26 at Eversley Park, followed by arts and crafts in the marquee from 11am.

Worthy Runners will host Run For All in the park, and there will be free training session on how to use the free equipment there.

A music festival, including the Military Wives Choir and local bands, runs all day to 11.30pm.

The Worthys Festival closes on Sunday September 27 with dog, flower and produce shows and football skills.

Winchester Cathedral Girls’ Choir will perform Evensong at St Mary’s Church from 4.30pm.

The finale is at the King Charles pub including a barbecue, live music with Worthys Ukulele Band, and fireworks.
