SOUTHAMPTON Jazz Club celebrates the opening of a new chapter in its 40 year plus history with a star-studded jazz gig.

The Derek Nash Acoustic Quartet headline on Tuesday night as the club moves to the new Talking Heads in the city's Polygon.

A driving force on the jazz scene, Nash is the UK’s leading saxophonist and he has appeared with a cast of performers which reads like an A –Z of the jazz and pop world.

They include John Dankworth, Humphrey Lyttelton, Paul McCartney, George Melly, Georgie Fame, Clare Teal, Eric Clapton, Charlie Watts and Jamie Cullum.

Nash has won a string of British Jazz awards and since 2004 has been a member of the Jools Holland Rhythm Orchestra. He is a familiar face to millions of TV viewers who tune into Jool’s Near Year Hootenanny Show.

For more than 30 years he has led Sax Appeal and his Clowns Pocket Recording Studio has been used by many British musicians to record, mix and master albums.

Sharing the Talking Heads stage will be master of the jazz piano Dave Newton. His music can be heard on many TV productions, especially in the United States where more than 20 TV movies benefit from his haunting themes.

UK’s leading jazz bass players Geoff Gascoyne who has also played with Georgie Fame and toured with another blues veteran Van Morrison, and ace drummer Sebastiaan De Krom complete the Derek Nash Quartet.
