EXPECT ambitious, experimental sound when ground-breaking collective The Moulettes arrive in Southampton tonight.

The Brighton based band, regular visitors to the area with family in Hampshire, their own record label Sotones and long time collaborators Band of Skulls in Southampton, are promoting their forthcoming new album release Preternatural with a Brook date to open their tour.

It was in early 2015 when reading an article in the New Scientist that lead singer, cello and guitarist Hannah Miller first starting thinking about a concept for the new album.

"I've always been fascinated by nature and the natural world. Me and Ollie (Austin, who plays drums, guitar and piano as well as doing vocals) were reading this article about deep life and we couldn't believe how many things were living in conditions which it was previously thought nothing could survive in, like 3km underground with no oxygen and no sunlight.

"We thought they deserved their own album, so we did a lot of research, watched a lot of David Attenborough and made different sounds for different creatures.

"We're really looking forward to playing the songs live and developing them a bit more. It's already changed quite a bit in rehearsal. Music is an organic thing, you can't stop it from developing really. We spent a lot of time in Southampton so it feels right to start our tour there.

"We supported Seth Lakeman at The Brook before and I remember it well for the great atmosphere.

Expect a light show, costumes and full production to enhance the sounds of prog, pop, alt-folk and rock from the band, who have previously played Glastonbury and Bestival and shared a stage with Mick Jagger and Mumford and Sons.

Tickets for The Moulettes, Hannah, Ollie Austin, Ruth Skipper (Bassoon, vocals, autoharp, synths), Jim Mortimore (Double bass, Guitar, vocals)and Raevennan Husbandes (Electric Guitar, Vocals, Percussion), are available from the-brook.com or 023 8055 5366.
