HIS Sounds of the 50s show has been a huge hit on the radio airwaves.

Now for the first time Leo Green is set to take his iconic BBC 2 show on the road.

It will be spinning across the nation, kicking off at Eastleigh’s Concorde Club on June 9.

And Leo has the perfect pop pedigree for reprising those classic recordings from a golden decade of music.

At the age of 20 Leo Green was playing sax for Jerry Lee Lewis and the iconic rocker called Green “the greatest sax player I have worked with.”

Leo was in Van Morrison’s band from 1995 to 2000, touring the world and appearing on numerous albums.

He has also worked with Jools Holland, Ronnie Wood, Paul Weller, Lionel Ritchie and many others.

In 2011 Leo created BluesFest, now in its sixth year.

As a broadcaster Leo has written and produced numerous series on BBC Radio 2 including In Conversation With Van Morrison, Celebrating The American Songbook, Friday Night Is Music Night,

Ella & The Songbooks, Remembering the Candy Man; Sammy Davis Junior, Gershwin Rediscovered, Leo Green’s Hollywood Special, Green On Green and a Celebration of Benny Green.

Woven around Leo’s stories and sax playing, The Sounds of the 50s’ show will showcase hits from the likes of Elvis, Buddy Holly, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Bill Haley, Frankie Laine, The Drifters, Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, Julie London, Peggy Lee, Cliff Richard, Neil Sedaka, Jackie Wilson and many others.

Ahead of the tour Leo said: “The 50s really was the decade that musically had everything and when you see and hear the songs performed live on stage there is simply nothing like it.”
