SOUTHAMPTON band Creeper are celebrating after winning a major music industry award.

They were named Best British Newcomer at the annual Kerrang! awards.

Taking to facebook the band posted:

"Hey guys, last night we won 'Best British Newcomer' at the Kerrang! awards!

Words can't really explain how we feel right now."

They added: "We want to say a big thank you to Kerrang! Magazine for believing in our band and for really championing and getting behind new bands. Last night our friends AsItIs, Neck Deep, MILK TEETH, Muncie Girls and Moose Blood were all at the awards and it became apparent just how much of a good place the UK scene is in at the moment. It's so exciting and our privilege to be a part of it."

They also thanked all their loyal fans: "Lastly, we just want to say thanks so much to all of you. Your support is like nothing we've ever known. Truly thank you so much, we love you.xxWill, Dan, Oliver, Ian, Hannah and Sean."

The band only got together in 2014 but their ascent has been incredible.

With their electric blend of goth and punk rock and their brilliant live reputation they are one of the most talked about bands of the moment.

The band have major festival dates lined up including Reading Festival and Bestival.

As with most apparent overnight success stories, Creeper’s current breakthrough is the culmination of years of dedication as individuals.

Inspired by the strength of their local music scene as well as the ethos and political awareness of hardcore, vocalist Will Gould and guitarist Ian Miles toiled in bands while their contemporaries were at university. Gould’s housemate Dan Bratton joined on drums once the vocalist realised that his friend – experienced in various melodic rock groups – could immediately master the energy, fury and precision that their sonic attack would demand. The line up was completed by bassist and former tech-death metal vocalist Sean Scott. Creeper’s core reference points reflect their roots – The Misfits, Alkaline Trio, The Damned – but their wider influences, from the doomed romanticism of Nick Cave to the crunch of Metallica and the flamboyance of Roxy Music and David Bowie, seep into their sound. It’s an antidote to the current trend of no-frills punk and hardcore.

The continuing rise of the hotly-tipped goth-punks Creeper also continues unabated with the release of their EP The Stranger.

Their second release for Roadrunner Records UK, it follows the critically acclaimed The Callous Heart EP which is now entirely sold-out on vinyl.

The band’s 2015 highlights included tours with Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, The Misfits, Funeral For A Friend, Moose Blood and Twin Atlantic; and they also burst onto the festival circuit at Download, the Vans Warped Tour UK, 2000 Trees, Hevy and Camden Rocks.
