WHAT better way to celebrate midsummer night and Shakespeare’s 400th Anniversary than with live art and a full orchestra...A Midsummer Night’s Dream is coming to Turner Sims on Saturday afternoon( June 18 at 3pm).

Prepare to be enchanted by master story-teller and artist James Mayhew as he immerses you in one of Shakespeare’s most enthralling tales. Alongside són, Southampton’s new professional orchestra, James guides you through Shakespeare’s Dream, painting all the time onto a giant canvas. Cameras trained on his easel will bring his breath-taking artwork to life, projected for all to see onto a giant screen above the orchestra’s heads.

We’ve a special pre-concert workshop lined-up in the foyer, where youngsters can enjoy themed activities including face-painting, making fairy-wings and other costume-accessories before curtain-up. As an additional treat for all, the University Players will feature Shakespeare’s Puck, Lion and other mechanicals in an exclusive performance an hour before the main concert.

It’s a wonderful way of introducing people of all ages to the brilliant world of Shakespeare – as well as to orchestral music, painting and story-telling. Ideally suited to children aged 6 and above - and adults will love it too!
