MISCHIEVOUS musical tearaway Rat Boy is following a huge summer of festivals with a major UK tour and he's heading to the south.

The indie hip-hop singer-songwriter is bringing his energetically entertaining show to Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms in September.

Only just out of his teens, the singer - real name Jordan Cardy – first hit the headlines early last year after his five track self-produced mix tape won him a Parlophone record contract and radio air play.

Soon afterwards, the Chelmsford star and bandmates drummer Noah Booth, guitarist Harry Todd and bassist Liam Haygarth first played The Wedgewood Rooms, supporting Circa Waves.

The Daily Echo wrote at the time that we’d hear more from Rat Boy after he made such a memorable impact. He returned to headline The Joiners in Southampton last autumn.

Famous for his songs about being fired from Wetherspoons, fake IDs, trouble in town and the perils of signing on, the baseball cap wearing singer is a fantastic storyteller of English life as well as a pioneering musician who does all his own record artwork.

Rat Boy gigs are fast-paced and original with plenty of friendly chaotic madness. At Bristol Dot to Dot festival in May he packed out the large O2 Academy venue in the early evening and even had a skateboard as the table top for his keyboard and beat box.

His new five track EP Get Over It is out August 26, the same weekend he’s on the NME/BBC Radio One stages at Reading and Leeds festivals. After that Rat Boy plays The Wedgewood Rooms, Albert Road, Portsmouth on Monday September 26. Tickets £13. More at ratboy.co.uk
