They played their first festivals over the summer and toured their music in the north, but now indie band Cassava are coming home for their first headline gig in Southampton.

Singer-guitarist Liam Cole, lead guitarist Torrin Rees, bassist Jared Plumb and drummer Scott Chambers are launching their second single What Have You Got? at The Joiners tonight.

“We’re really excited to be back after playing in places with a real buzz like Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds” said frontman Liam.

“There are new songs to debut and it’s going to be a fantastic up-beat set. We’ll make sure everyone has a good time; there’s even an after party at The Alex on London Road.

“Our new single has a punchy chorus and strong melodies which we’re really excited about. We worked at Quay West studios with Ben Marks who’s produced quite a few other Southampton bands like Fever, The Costellos and Elixir.

“It’s brilliant that The Amazons from Reading will be alongside us at The Joiners. They’re a great band, who’ll also be at Little Johnny Russell’s as part of Southsea Fest next month with us. Make sure you get down early to see them!”

Forty-eight hours before their big Southampton date, Cassava, who were previously known as Stirling, were at The Purple Turtle in Reading to take part in an exciting BBC Introducing showcase with other up and coming bands.

“We’re just doing everything we can to get our music out there” said Liam.

Earlier this year they supported Dundee indie stars The View and Manchester’s Spring King in Southampton as well as playing Blissfields and Wickham festivals.
