HE is a jazz legend who was the architect of the sixties blues-rock explosion and she is a jazz songstress known to millions of radio listeners.

Veteran bandleader Chris Barber and jazz star Clare Teal will be headlining at Eastleigh’s Concorde Club, which next year clocks up 60 years as an international mecca of jazz, in the next few weeks.

If it had not been for Chris Barber we might never have heard of The Rolling Stones and The Beatles.

He was at the forefront of the trad boom in the early fifties and it was his music that inspired The Stones and The Fab Four.

The 86 year-old musician who is still going strong on the jazz circuit across the UK and Europe returns to The Concorde, Eastleigh, on November 30 with The Big Chris Barber Band.

The trombonist, who is marking his 67 th anniversary as a band leader, is the sole survivor of a legendary trio of British jazz musicians called the Three Bs – Barber, Bilk and Ball.

With his 11 piece band Chris will be playing a wide selection of his favourite music from his roots in New Orleans style to soulful blues.

The veteran musician is no stranger to the Stoneham Lane Club with his links stretching back to the 50s when the club was squeezed into the backroom of The Bassett pub in Burgess Road, Southampton.

The Concorde has also become the spiritual home for one of Britain’s most popular jazz stars Clare Teal.

For it was from Eastleigh’s Concorde that Clare launched a star studded career which has made her the nation’s most successful jazz singers in decades.

In 2004 she clinched a £3 million five-album deal – an unprecedented amount for a jazz singer - and she has never looked back.

Clare who has twice been voted British Jazz Singer of the Year is well known to millions of radio listeners for her twice weekly BBC big band shows.

She will be getting the Concorde’s jazz fans into the Christmas spirit with Clare Teal’s Festive Fiesta on December 7.

As well as the all the old favourites Clare will be showcasing her latest album, Twelve O’Clock Tales accompanied by the Halle Orchestra with trumpet maestro Guy Barker and celebrated jazz pianists Grant Windsor and Jason Rebello.

The album has a rich jazz infused repertoire with songs from Cole Porter, Nine Simone, Nancy Wilson and Peggy Lee.
